The Process at Placenta TLC

How does it work?

The first step is to reserve your spot with us in Placenta TLC, by completing our online booking form and paying your €70 deposit. We then post everything you need for the hospital a few weeks before your due date.  The chill pack comes with step by step instructions but do remember to put your ice packs in the freezer!

On the day, if time allows, your birth partner can call the number on the pack to advise your in labour.  Once your baby is born your midwife will pack up the placenta and your partner can then place it in your chill pack and call Placenta TLC to advise baby has arrive, we will arrange collection at this stage. If you’re going in for an induction we advise leaving the chill pack at home until your partner is allowed in when you are in active labour.

If your baby is born during the night your birth partner just follows the instructions on the pack, – calls and leaves a message and brings it home and places it in the fridge until we make contact in the morning.
How are the capsules made?
  • Once we collect your placenta  is washed, diced and placed into a dehydrator for 14-16 hours and then pulsed into a fine powder.
  • The number of capsules you will receive will depend on the size of your placenta but the average is 180.
Here at Placenta TLC we aim to  get your capsules back to our clients as soon as possible, the capsules are accompanied with full instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to talk to the hospital about placenta encapsulation?
Your placenta is your property to do with as you wish but you can mention it to your consultant, its best to tell your midwife when your having your baby and also put your wishes in your birth plan.  If you are going public it would be best to wait until you go in to have your baby, as you will be dealing with different people on your antenatal visits.
What do I need to buy to bring to the hospital ?

Placenta TLC provide everything you need for your the hospital, we post your chill pack along with step by step instructions prior to the birth.

When should I book in with Placenta TLC?
You can book in anytime after your 12 week scan but don’t leave it too close to your due date as we book up very quickly and we also need time to get your chill pack to you.
What happens after I book?

We will confirm your booking via email once we receive your booking form and your deposit.  At around week 36 we post everything you need for the birth.

Do I contact you before or after I have my baby ?

If possible we ask the birth partner to ring  Placenta TLC,  just to let us know that you have started the labour process. We totally understand if you can’t contact us until after your baby is born.

What happens after I have my baby ?
Once baby is born the midwife will bag up your placenta for you and place in the chill pack, your birth partner will need to seal this closed.  Your partner can then call  Placenta TLC, and collection is arranged with your birth partner.
As we are based in Cork we collect from CUMH on the day of the birth,  outside of Cork our courier collects from all the other National maternity  hospitals.
If baby arrives during the night your birth partner can call our number and leave a message, the placenta should be taken home and placed in the fridge until we make contact and collection is then arranged. All these instructions are also on your chill pack.
Here at Placenta TLC we pride ourselves on taking care of our clients and guiding them through the amazing journey of encapsulation so please give us a call at any stage if you have any further questions.
